Investigation/Arrest

We are able to provide specialist advice and representation for Clients under arrest or investigation by Prosecuting Authorities. Ronnie Broit is the Firm's accredited Police Station representative (see 'Our People' for further details)

The Police and other Investigating Authorities will wish to conduct interviews under caution and clients should be sure to seek legal advice before taking part in any such interview, the process is complex and it is essential that clients are aware of their rights before commencing the interview. On occasion it may be possible to avoid the interview altogether if this is in the client's interests.

In interview there are a number of different tactical approaches which may suit the client's interests including exercising  the right of silence, submitting a prepared statement, decline to participate in the interview at all or providing a detailed account as to the defence case.

Defending People Against Criminal Charges

We consider ourselves experts in defending criminal cases and our aim is to exceed clients’ expectations as to the standard and quality of our service and to achieve the best result possible for our clients.

Renshaw Derrick is a relatively small Firm which allows us to provide Clients with a personal service and the continuity often lacking in larger Firms. In particular, in Crown Court cases Robert or Doug will continue to have personal involvement and responsibility throughout the proceedings.

The Firm has an excellent relationship with Barristers' Chambers with access to very senior Barristers in London, Winchester, Bristol, Southampton, Bournemouth and elsewhere.

We regularly instruct expert witnesses to assist in the preparation and presentation of defence cases including pathologists, forensic accountants, scientists and experts across a wide range of specialist areas of expertise.

Specialist Road Traffic

Our Specialist Advocates appear in Court daily and have a wealth of experience and expertise in helping to keep clients on the road.  We have an excellent reputation and have represented members of the Judiciary, Police Officers, Solicitors and other professionals facing prosecution for road traffic related offences throughout the South of England.  We regularly advise and represent corporate clients.

We have on numerous occasions acted for the Defence in cases involving technical arguments surrounding time limits, validity of statutory notices, notices of intended prosecution including Police requisitions for information and the failure of the Police to properly operate speed detection equipment.

We have successfully represented Clients facing allegations of exceeding the speed limit by demonstrating that the enforcement procedures used by the Police are defective.

We are well equipped to defend Clients facing allegations of driving with excess alcohol and are able to challenge the technical evidence upon which Prosecution seek to rely.

We also have an excellent track record of representing Clients facing driving disqualification whether under the penalty points system or otherwise.

Child Care Law

Robert Renshaw is a member of the special Panel of Solicitors approved to conduct public law child care cases and to act on behalf of Guardians Ad Litem.  Robert has been appearing in these cases for 20 years and in addition to a wealth of experience and technical knowledge, he is able to guide clients through a complex legal process with consideration and understanding.
